Saving an 'Old Lady'

This old lady came to my shop for help. She showed, not only evidence of hard life but evidence of many hours of entertainment and heart healing work that she provided.

A crack in the sound board is never good sign. This is structural damage and it can only get worse. I suspect some internal injuries (bracing). This will need immediate attention.

Pick marks will only add to the character of this old entertainer. It is not serious damage so they will stay.

The Disbanded back will also need quick fix.

Further inspection confirmed my suspicion about 'internal injuries'. The 'X' brace was broken and disbanded.

Another brace was found partially disbanded.

Pins will need replacement.

Repair process (surgery).

My choice of repair instruments.

Glue was injected in to the crack and under the braces.

Then, the repair areas have been clamped.

There we go, this old lady will continue to entertain for many years to come.

This Guitar’s story:

This fine instrument is my guitar Serial Number 002 .
It is product of more than two years of research and study of traditional guitar making. One word can
describe sound, look and quality of this product,  that is ‘SUCCESS’! It is constructed using traditionally
most efficient design developed by finest guitar makers around the world. This includes
carved “X” bracing of sound board to give ridged, light weight structure that will provide most effective
transfer of string vibration to the tone wood . High quality wood used is responsible for beauty of the
tone that this guitar produce. All materials and method of assembly are picked to provide long life and
stability of the instrument. All gluing and assembling was conducted in temperature and humidity
controlled environment. Neck was carved out of single solid peace of mahogany with inbuilt two way
truss rod for stability and easy adjustments and setup. High gloss finish was achieved by high labour
intensive ‘French Polish’ using Shellac as traditional and natural wood finish. This method was chosen
as it creates thinnest layer of finish coverage to prevent any sound lose in the tone wood but in same
time provide high gloss look.

Intruduction

Hi there,

I'd like to introduce myself to the acoustic guitar world, to all of you who love to play and who love to listen  the sound of fine, handcrafted, acoustic guitars. My name is Shoma Subotic, I'm from Melbourne and I make acoustic guitars under the name 'Shoma Acoustics'.
Before I bent the wood of my first guitar I did my homework. For three years I've been studying and researching the best combination of materials and best way to produce this beautiful instrument. That's the reason why this story is a success from the start. When I was building my first instrument, I felt like I've been doing it for whole my life. The feedback I had gotten was fantastic. This is one of the reviews that can be found on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeyrPyyMl2M .
My goal was not to introduce something new to the world, I've just wanted to find the 'sweet spot'. The combination of existing engineering and materials to get top end acoustic instrument. I'm not compromising the quality of sound and construction for the price. All materials and hardware built in to my guitars are top quality.
For now, all my jigs and tools are set to build Dreadnought models, manly based on Martin specifications, however, the OOO model will be my next project, as I recently received an order.

My plan is to sell my guitars through the music shop in Melbourne ( Already have a deal. Consignment contract will be signed this month, and I will post it when deal is finalised), as well as direct orders.

So, thanks for visiting and stay tuned.
